Malta is the name for the small set of islands that lie nestled in the South of the Mediterranean. Located approximately 75km south of Sicily and 250km west of Tunisia, Malta is on the same latitude as the southern islands of Greece.
Malta consists of three inhabited islands, called Malta (the largest), Gozo (the second largest) and Comino, as well as a smattering of smaller islands.

The climate in this part of the world can be summed up as generally sunny! Malta receives an average of 10-12 hours direct sunlight daily during the summer, and a generous 6-7 hours in the winter. Compare this with London's average of 6 hours during summer and 1-2 hours during winter, and you'll see just how nice the Maltese climate is. Summer temperatures average around 30°C (86°F), while winter sees a somewhat cooler average of 12°C (54°F).

Springs and Autumns are very nice times to visit Malta, with the temperatures warm but not hot, and the evenings cool but not balmy. Spring time, April and May particularly, can be quite beautiful with the islands green with vegetation and all the flowers blooming. If you visit during Autumn, be sure to check out the local produce, particularly the fruit of the cactus, and the local honey, available at many of the road-side fruit-stalls.
