The Veneto region

Nearby are the attractions of the Eugenean Hills, The Veneto wine country, historic cities of Padua, Vicenza, Verona and Trieste. In the middle of all this is the jewel that is Venice, La Serenissima.

This region of Italy is also famous for its' National Park of the Dolomites, the beautiful mountain sceneries, the 40km of coast, the local wines like Prosecco and its regional dish polenta.

Veneto is a region in north-eastern Italy, with its capital in Venice. It was an independent republic until the invasion of Napoleon in 1797. There's so much to see ...

Cities

• Venice - with St. Mark's Square, the Great Lagoon, the gondolas on the Grand Canal, Venice's Carnival together with great architecture, artistic masterpieces, particular narrow streets, the Biennale, the Marine Republic, but Veneto is not only Venice.

• Cortina d'Ampezzo - in the province of Belluno, is part of the Veneto as well. A place with spectacular views of the Dolomites where you can relax and walk in summer and go skiing in winter. The Olympic Wintergames in 1956 helped Cortina d'Ampezzo to become a city known anywhere in the world.

• Padova, the ancient and learned city with its Basilica del Santo that houses the relics of Saint Antonio is one of the major attraction points for millions of pilgrims every year.

• Verona - The city of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? If you plan to go to Verona you should at least try to get one of the searched tickets for the opera in the Arena.

Italy, Beautiful Italy. Whether on the Italian Riviera, or Florence, where the buildings date back to the year 1100, their ancientness certainly shocked me, or Rome where many buildings such as the colliseum date back to before Christianity, Italy is very different from anything in North America. For one thing they have the very best ice cream, hard to believe, but their ice-cream is far superior to anything in North America and I'm not an ice cream fan.

Likewise, Italian food is far superior to anything in North America. I would go so far as to say in my opinion Italian food is the best in Europe. Perhaps you think I am prejudiced. Actually it is quite the opposite, France is my favorite European country and I quite expected French food to be better than all the rest, but if it is I never ate that food, because I never could afford it. Italian food is more reasonably priced and tastes better, at least within my budget.

Likewise, I expected France to be the fashion center of the world. Italy is much more fashion concious and much more well dressed. For a North American Italy is also more unique. This is the beginning of a resource to help you find your way about italy with more to come.
