Sicily offers a wide choice of holiday options spanning archaeological, historical and naturalistic riches.

Evidence for the Island’s multi-millenial history has been provided by many archaeological discoveries over the centuries. Sites attesting to Sicily’s various colonizations across the Island are today major attractions for tourists from all over the world: necropolises and relics of Sicani and Siculi, considered to be the earliest settlers; temples and cities of Greeks who here founded the two colonies of Syracuse and Akragas, just to name the major, in the 8th century BC; monuments and buildings left by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs and, most of all, the Normans, whose battles against the Arabs, in the 11th century, alas, largely accounted for the irreparable loss of many precious leftovers from the past civilizations.

Sicily is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea, with breathtaking landscapes and cities – most of which located along the coast. A choice of tour itineraries allow the visitor to explore and experience the multiple features of this incredible land.

Tourism Sicily

Sicily's sunny, dry climate, scenery, cuisine, history, and architecture attract many tourists from mainland Italy and abroad. The tourist season peaks in the summer months, although people visit the island all year round. Mount Etna, the beaches, the archeological sites, and the two major cities of Catania and Palermo are the favourite tourist destinations, but the old town of Taormina and the neighbouring seaside resort of Giardini Naxos draw visitors from all over the world, as do the Aeolian Islands, Erice, Cefalù, Syracuse, and Agrigento. The latter features some of the best-preserved temples of the ancient Greek period. Many Mediterranean cruise ships stop in Sicily, and many wine tourists also visit the island.

Italy, Beautiful Italy. Whether on the Italian Riviera, or Florence, where the buildings date back to the year 1100, their ancientness certainly shocked me, or Rome where many buildings such as the colliseum date back to before Christianity, Italy is very different from anything in North America. For one thing they have the very best ice cream, hard to believe, but their ice-cream is far superior to anything in North America and I'm not an ice cream fan.

Likewise, Italian food is far superior to anything in North America. I would go so far as to say in my opinion Italian food is the best in Europe. Perhaps you think I am prejudiced. Actually it is quite the opposite, France is my favorite European country and I quite expected French food to be better than all the rest, but if it is I never ate that food, because I never could afford it. Italian food is more reasonably priced and tastes better, at least within my budget.

Likewise, I expected France to be the fashion center of the world. Italy is much more fashion concious and much more well dressed. For a North American Italy is also more unique. This is the beginning of a resource to help you find your way about italy with more to come.
