Scuba diving and Water SportsSharm el-Sheikh has also become a favourite spot for Scuba divers from around the world. Being situated near to the Red Sea, it provides some of the most stunning underwater scenery and warm water making this an ideal place to dive. Visitors to Sharm el-Sheikh can experience a variety of water and activities. Beach seekers find many activities such as diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, kite surfing, para-sailing, boating, and canoeing. Ras Mohammed is the National Park of South Sinai and located on the very tip of the Sinai Peninsula; it probably represents some of the most famous dive sites in the Red Sea with 800-metre (2,600 ft) deep reef walls and pounding current and coral gardens. The Sharm el-Sheikh Hyperbaric Medical Center was founded in 1993 with a grant from USAID by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, represented by Dr Adel Taher to assist with diving related illnesses and complete the area's reputation as a full-service dive destination. Sharm el Sheik is situated on the Southern tip of the Sinai peninsula, Egypt. With the Red Sea on one side and the mountains of Mount Sinai on the other. The resort of high quality big named hotels, restaurants from around the world, water sports and golf course. As well as some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world, and arguably the best in the world.

Nile file - cruising down the river
Face facts - Britain's cities look grey in January, while those of Egypt are a riot of colour, so come and book Egypt Vacation Rentals
A
Nile cruise between the cities of Luxor and Aswan is an ideal escape
from the winter blues, offering a feast of sunshine, amazing vistas and
history.
You won't see the Pyramids but you will see an awesome
range of ancient temples and burial chambers of kings and queens as
well as a dazzling modern panorama.
As 96% of the land in Egypt is desert, it's unlikely a holiday there will be spoiled by rain.
Summer
months can be unbearably hot but at this time of year days are warm,
balmy and often blessed with a gentle breeze. Temperatures dip after
sunset so take a sweater.
A Nile cruise allows you to top up your tan on deck in between visits ashore to step back into history.
On
the West Bank of Luxor is the Valley of the Kings with 62 tombs of
pharaohs who, to deter grave robbers, were not buried under a
conspicuous pyramid.
Here is the tomb of King Tutankhamun - now less impressive since its fabulous treasures were unearthed by Howard Carter in 1922.
More awe-inspiring is the temple of legendary Queen Hatshepsut which at a distance resembles a Hollywood filmset.
Luxor
is also home to Karnak Temple - staggering in size and complexity,
which hosts a nightly sound-and-light show. Further downriver are the
temples of Esna, dedicated to the god of creation, and Edfu, dedicated
to Horus the falcon-headed god.
The banks of the Nile once teemed with crocodiles and Komombo Temple is partly dedicated to croc-headed god Sobek.
They disappeared after the great dam at Aswan - a huge project to make more of the country fertile - was built.
Its
construction meant the Philae Temple, dedicated to goddess Isis, was
shifted to a nearby island and rebuilt after being briefly
half-submerged.

| Why go on holiday to Hurghada? Most people head for this large, built-up, Egyptian resort on the Red Sea for one reason only - diving. The waters are clear and there are reefs to explore, although most of those close to the resort have been destroyed by development. You need to be far from shore to enjoy a truly unspoilt dive. The Giftun Islands, Umm Qamar and Fanadir are popular destinations. Construction of new hotels in Hurghada continues apace, so check with your travel agent to make sure you're not next to a building site. How much will it cost? Seven nights at a four or five-star beach hotel is from £359. A one-day introductory dive course is from £60, a Padi (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) four or five-day dive course costs from £170. A three-day dive pack (two dives per day with guides, tanks and weights included) is from £80. There are often good value dive packages available from Egyptian specialist operators, so remember to shop around. When should I go? The peak tourist season is November to March, when it can get very crowded with European holidaymakers desperate for some winter sun. Summer temperatures reach a scorching 40C, with winters a more comfortable 20C. Who's it for? Chiefly sun worshippers, dive enthusiasts and those who like active holidays. There are plenty of clubs and bars for the younger crowd, although it's also popular with older visitors, especially in winter. You can take diving courses here at all levels and there are plenty of other water sports including snorkelling and deep sea fishing. What are the must-sees? The reefs which teem with hundreds of varieties of fish and corals. There are also some wrecks to dive. If you don't want to get your feet wet, there are glass-bottomed boat trips and submarines or even the aquarium, but nothing compares to getting up close and personal to the wildlife below the surface. You can also take a ferry trip across to Sharm El Sheikh on the tip of the Sinai peninsula opposite Hurghada. The area around the peninsula boasts the excellent Ras Mohammed National Park, one of the world's top dive sites. If you want a break from being under or on the water, you can take a day trip to the Red Sea mountains by jeep or camel, or visit the Roman quarries of Mons Porphyritis. What will I spend? A three-course meal in a mid-range restaurant is around £5. A bottle of local wine is from £4.40, imported wine from £7, a beer is around £1.30. A short taxi ride (about 3km) is around £1, a litre of petrol about 10p. A pack of cigarettes is around 45p and a 24-exposure film is from £1.30. *Feeling inspired? Book a break to Egypt. |
